“I do not care what kind of birth you have.. a home birth, scheduled cesarean, epidural hospital birth, or if you deliver in the woods next to a baby deer. I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices, and that you were respected”
~ January Harshe.
how it works
From the time of hire, you and your partner will have complete access to us and our resources via phone and email. We are prepared to answer any questions you may have, advise any choices made for your pregnancy, labor and delivery or early postpartum, give our recommendations for non toxic baby, pregnancy, breast/chest feeding safe products and references to professionals for anything else you may need support in that fall's outside of our scope of practice.
We will have two prenatals, preferably before 37 weeks, to answer questions and discuss any desires, fears or concerns you may have. We will demonstrate (and teach your partner if desired) all physical support options that can help ease discomfort during labor. Based on the goals you set for your birth, we will offer informational support to further educate you, remind you of your options and go over ways we can assist you in communicating with your care provider. This is also a time for us to connect more fully with you and get to know each other better before coming together again in your birth space. If you'd like to add additional prenatal visits, we can offer up to 2 additional visits. Prenatal’s are typically 2 hours long.
We are on call for your birth from 38 weeks until 42 weeks gestation. This month allows for the unpredictability of babies arrival. During this time our phones are on us and at high volume day and night, we will never be further than 2 hours from your location and we are staying well rested and mindful of your birth.
Continuous labor support at home, hospital or birthing center. Once early signs of labor begin, we will stay in frequent phone contact and together determine when is the best time for us to join you. We will support you physically, emotionally and without judgment throughout labor and the birth of your child. If desired, we can stay for up to 2 hours after baby arrives to advocate for all of your post birth desires, help facilitate early bonding and feeding and take photos with your mobile phones to catch those first moments in the event that photographers are not allowed in the birth room.
Following birth, we will reach out to schedule an in home postpartum visit (preferably within the first two weeks). In this visit we can unpack your birth, check in about your postpartum healing and support system and offer other help from nursery organizing to preparing a quick hot meal. Postpartum check-ins are typically 2 hours long. For additional postpartum support, see our postpartum page.
